What should I wear for my professional headshots?
Professional headshots can vary quite a bit based upon your profession. For instance, corporate headshots generally require that you match your coworkers. Medical, engineering and legal professionals tend to lean more toward business attire whereas creative professionals usually try to show off their fun side. The other fundamental question is will be the headshot be just head and shoulders, or half or full body? Pants might be important.
What color wardrobe options work best for headshots?
In general, the best colors for headshots are navy blue, dark grey, medium grey, burgundy, deep purple and dark green. Small prints are generally not a great idea. Light blue and light grey shirts work better than pure white and cream for most skin tones. I generally recommend that clients bring a lot of wardrobe so we can work together with the lighting, backdrop and your skin tone and hair color to make the best possible image.
Indoor studio lighting or outdoor natural lighting?
Indoor studio lighting is generally shot on a solid color backdrop like white or light grey and might be necessary to fit a website design guide. Outdoor natural lighting, with the background out of focus, is a very popular style these days and is commonly used to tell a story or set context for your headshot. I can do either, or both, in a single headshot session.
Simple headshot or professional image package?
I offer a simple headshot session that offers 6-8 final edited options and takes 30 minutes to shoot. This is done at my studio and can be indoor studio lighting or outdoor natural lighting or both. I also offer a professional image package that takes 75 minutes to shoot, results in 40-50 final edited image and is suitable for website development, social media support and promotion of events. The professional image shoot includes a simple headshot and can be done at multiple locations.
